A vapour barrier and insulation are essential to prevent transfer of moisture to other areas and to ensure there is no fluctuation of temperature within the cellar. Often an oversight, the cellar door should also be insulated. We can supply insulated doors in solid door or glass door options, both supplied within their own frames with magnetic seal and lock as standard. Cellar conditioning equipment should be installed to ensure temperatures of 12 or 13 degrees Celsius are maintained year-round with optimum humidity within the cellar to prevent corks from drying out.
If your cellar conversion is within your home, you need to know that the conditioning equipment used is not going to be intrusive, particularly during a summer heatwave when bedroom windows need to be open through the night. Temperature and humidity control equipment can be concealed in furniture fittings with attractive and discreet vents. Equipment can also be housed in a false ceiling, if the location allows.

Split system conditioning equipment comprises of a condensing unit which is normally mounted on the outside of a building on the wall or on the ground. It can be surrounded by fencing or trellis, so long as the airflow around it is not impeded. It is connected by a gas pipe to the evaporating unit inside the cellar. The maximum distance between the condensing unit and evaporator is 15m. All our split-systems feature ultra-silence noise suppression and active humidity control.
The evaporator unit is connected by gas pipe to the outside condensing unit. The maximum distance between evaporator and condenser is 15m. For customers who do not wish to see the evaporator unit, we use specially adapted units which can be concealed in ceiling voids or within furniture, with a decorative grill to match the surrounds.
